We all know the value of our heart. It’s undeniably the single most important organ in the body.
Yet, most of us only stop to think about our heart when we physically feel it beating. Sometimes that may be whilst exercising, other times whilst experiencing heightened emotions such as nervousness or happiness.
But, whether we’re in tune with it or not, our heart is consistently working, beating anywhere between 60-100 beats per minute. Here’s how it works…
The impulse to beat starts in a small bundle of specialized cells located in the right atrium, called the SA node. The electrical activity spreads through the walls of the atria and causes them to contract. This forces blood into the ventricles. And voila – a beating heart!
We’ve all got one, and hopefully you just took a moment to appreciate yours just a little more.
