Survey Reveal Nearly Half Of Americans ‘Wear Underwear For 2 Days Or Longer’
A shocking new survey has revealed more than half of people don’t change their underwear every day.
According to the research by underwear maker Tommy John, 45 percent have worn the same pair of undies for two days or longer.
Meanwhile, a grotty 13 percent admitted they had donned the same set for a week or more.
And men are the biggest culprit; the survey of 1,000 Americans revealed they are two-and-a-half times more likely than women to wear their pants for seven days or longer.
People are also loyal to their knickers, according to the research. Out of those asked, 46 percent of US citizens admitted they’d owned the same piece of underwear for a year or more.
Thirty-eight percent claimed they have no idea how long they’d had their favorite sets.
‘These results were split fairly evenly between men and women, which throws any theories out the window that women are more hygiene-conscious than men, or vice versa,’ a representative for Tommy John said.
The company recommends swapping out your underwear every six months to a year because it accumulates microorganisms and fungi that can lead to yeast infections or urinary tract infections.
According to a UK study in 2017, 83 percent of clean underwear already contains roughly 10,000 living bacteria – much of which comes from washing machines that rarely get their own clean.
A build-up of bacteria is another reason to sleep without underwear.
An online survey conducted by Mulberry’s Cleaners in the same year revealed that 18 percent of men and 10.5 percent of women in the UK don’t wash their underwear at all.
