While this news is a bit different than what we’d traditionally cover at Health Spirit Body, it certainly isn’t any less important. In fact, this news signifies the end of a very important era for many of us.
Simply put, Microsoft has announced that they’ll no longer develop the Paint program.
Paint has been part of the Windows operating system since its release in 1985, known for its simplicity and basic artistic results.
For many people, myself included, mention of the Paint program draws many deep-rooted memories to the surface. Most poignantly for me having the realization that I was the next Picasso at 8 years old, only to suffer extreme disappointment when all my finest works went down with our 1995 Gateway computer the following year.
Along with Paint, other programs facing the chopping block include Outlook Express email client, which is replaced with the built-in Mail app, and the Reader app, which will be integrated into Microsoft Edge.
Microsoft says that features on the list will be either removed from Windows 10 or “not in active development and might be removed in future releases”.
People (millennials) have expressed disappointment at the news on social media, with many sharing their “RIP” condolences on social media.
Perhaps the most poignant comment of the day came from game developer Mike Dailly who tweeted, “they should just release the source and make it public domain.”
