For the first time ever, women in their early 30’s are having more babies than younger moms in the United States.
In the previous three decades, the highest fertility rate was held by women in their late 20’s, but that changed last year, according to preliminary data released Wednesday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Health experts say the shift is due to more women waiting longer to have children and the ongoing drop in teen birth rates.
The data explains why it’s more common to see older parents with kids in elementary or high school, and fewer teen pregnancies. Now, the average age when women have their first child is about 28.
Although you shouldn’t let these stats shouldn’t affect your baby-making plans, hopefully, they alleviate stress if you’re childless and nearing (or have surpassed) the big 3-0. Data says you’re not in this alone!
