Marketers know how to play to our fears. It’s their job.
Hence why they consistently inundate us with anti-aging propaganda as they’ve identified aging as the most common concern among people 35-55 years old.
One of the most obvious signs of aging in men is balding, and society’s obsession with maintaining a youthful appearance has made the hair loss restoration industry big business in recent years.
BUT — before you rush out to buy your next batch of Rogaine, or schedule your hair grafting consultation, the results of this recent study may shift your perception of hair loss.
Researchers from the University of Pennsylvania found that men with bald heads are often perceived to be more successful and dominant by those they come into contact with.
In 2012, American scientist Albert E. Mannes conducted a study on 59 subjects, showing them each a series of pictures.
The subjects were shown each photo twice, once of a man with a full head of hair and once of the same man with his hair shaved off. The subjects reported that they thought the fully bald men were more dominant, bigger, and stronger.
In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, bald tech-entrepreneur Seth Godin said, “I’m not saying that shaving your head makes you successful, but it starts the conversation that you’ve done something active.”
Perceived Intelligence
A global study conducted by psychologist Ronald Henss of the University of Saarland found that while bald men are estimated to be older, they’re also thought to be wiser and more intelligent.
Conclusion
Listen up, men! If you’re losing your hair, perhaps you should take a razor to it and let your inner “Mr. Clean” shine. You may just find that it shifts the way people perceive you in a very favorable way.
